Lineage Societies of Lorain County Chapter OGS

Lineage Societies are a way to honor our ancestors that came to Lorain County to help settle this land. We have different levels of membership, and they can be found below. In order to be considered for a Lorain County Lineage Society, you must first be a member of the Lorain County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 is required to be submitted with your application for each society you apply to. Additional immediate family members, children and grandchildren, are eligible to join only at the time of the applicant's initial application for an additional $10 non-refundable fee per person applying. After the initial application, additional immediate family members will be required to pay the $25.00 non-refundable application fee.

All applications and documentation must be in paper format only. No CD's of application or documentation will be permitted except as a back-up file. Download the Guidelines here (guidelines for all levels are the same). Please keep in mind that the application deadline is June 1st.

First Families of Lorain County

In 1985, First Families of Lorain County was organized to identify and to celebrate the early pioneers who settled in our county prior to 1851. To become a member of the First Families of Lorain County, you must prove that your ancestor lived in Lorain County prior to 1 Jan 1851.

Settlers of Lorain County

In 2004 the Settlers of Lorain County was formed to identify and honor those early settlers who populated our county between 1851 and 1880. To become a member of the Settlers of Lorain County, you must prove that your ancestor lived in Lorain County between 1 Jan 1851 and 31 Dec 1880.

Century Families of Lorain County

This lineage group will honor your ancestor living in Lorain County between 1 Jan 1881 and 31 Dec of the year 100 years prior to the current year. In 2009, your family would have had to have been in Lorain County in 1909; in 2010, in 1910, etc. We hope you will become a part of this newest lineage group.

Civil War Society of Lorain County

The Civil War Society of Lorain County was formed in 2013 to honor and identify Civil War ancestor(s) and/or collateral relative(s) who served in the Civil War, for the Union or the Confederacy. The ancestor(s) must have, at some point, lived in or served from Lorain County Ohio. Dates of service must be between 12 April 1861 and 18 April 1865. Service is not limited to an Ohio outfit. Squirrel Hunters, spies, those with documented civilian service and female ancestors who served in some capacity (e.g. nurses) are eligible.
